Révision : listening and speaking in Grade 9

This review covers all 12 lessons. Because the unit is about listening and speaking, say every French answer out loud, and if possible have someone read the French questions to you so you also practise listening. Check each answer, and note which lessons need another look.

Twelve lessons in three families: listening and interacting, speaking with accurate grammar, and culture and politeness conventions.

How to use this review

  1. Do one practice set per sitting, out loud.
  2. Mark each answer ✓ (got it), ~ (almost) or ✗ (missed).
  3. For any ✗, reread that lesson's explanation and redo its Your turn set.
  4. Finish with the quiz. Aim for 8/10 or better, then record a 1-minute talk about yourself that uses at least four items from the grammar toolbox below.

What the review covers: all Grade 9 Core French listening and speaking expectations: listening strategies and understanding (A1), interactive listening and metacognition (A2), intercultural understanding (A3, B3), speaking strategies, fluency and language structures (B1), and speaking interaction and metacognition (B2).

Which lesson to revisit:

  • Tries to catch every word, never predicts or reflects, or reads 24-hour times wrongly; forgets me/te/se → Lesson 1, Bienvenue en 9e !
  • Qu'est-ce que est..., missing -t- in inversion, moi aussi after a negative → Lesson 2, Faisons connaissance !
  • en Cambodge, de le Maroc, à Sénégal → Lesson 3, La francophonie en Afrique et en Asie
  • Je veux... with strangers, besoin de l'eau → Lesson 4, À l'aéroport
  • Tournes à gauche !, droit/droite mixed up, à côté de le → Lesson 5, Dans mon quartier
  • pour cinq ans, depuis with the passé composé, mixing past tenses → Lesson 6, Raconte !
  • plus bon, mieux/meilleur confusion, adjective agreement → Lesson 7, Mon avis critique
  • il ne faut pas for don't have to, beaucoup des, can't compare two texts → Lesson 8, Manger local, gaspiller moins
  • English-style stress, ils ont/ils sont, forbidden liaisons, judging accents → Lesson 9, Les sons du français
  • Mixing tu and vous, désolé pour, excuses without solutions → Lesson 10, Tu ou vous ?
  • le/lui confusion, pronoun in the wrong place, overgeneralizing cultures → Lesson 11, Fêtes et traditions
  • Reads a script, no structure, vague feedback or goals → Lesson 12, Mon exposé

Encouragement: Grade 9 is the first credit course in high school French. Praise effort and risk-taking in speaking as much as accuracy; confidence grows with every conversation.
